Dr. Gustavo Pacheco López, is a distinguished neuroscientist and currently serves as Rector General of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM), Mexico, for the 2025–2029 term. He is a Full Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at UAM-Lerma and a Level III member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNII). He earned his degree in Experimental Biology from UAM and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from UNAM, in collaboration with the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, followed by postdoctoral training in Germany and at ETH Zürich, Switzerland.

His research focuses on integrative behavioral neuroscience, particularly neuro-endocrine-immune interactions, the microbiota–gut–brain axis, feeding behavior, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and the effects of obesogenic environments on cognitive function. His interdisciplinary research integrates human and animal models with advanced approaches including neuroimaging, next-generation DNA sequencing, bioimpedance spectroscopy, indirect calorimetry, and physiological signal analysis. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications, supervised numerous doctoral and postgraduate researchers, and received the State of Mexico Science and Technology Award in 2017 for his scientific contributions.
