Dr. Jaime García-Mena, Ph.D., is a Principal Investigator and Director of Research of the Laboratory of Environmental Genomics, Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology, CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico. He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from CINVESTAV and subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the University of Connecticut Health Center, USA. He is recognized as a Level III member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI) and has an extensive career in molecular biology, microbiology, environmental genomics, and human microbiome research.
His research focuses on human gut microbiota and microbiome, environmental genomics, obesity, type 2 diabetes, diet–microbiome interactions, human milk microbiota, and maternal–infant microbial transmission. His laboratory employs molecular biology, metagenomics, and high-throughput sequencing approaches to understand microbial diversity and its relationship with human health and disease. Dr. García-Mena has authored an extensive body of peer-reviewed research and leads multidisciplinary collaborations investigating microbiome-associated metabolic and inflammatory disorders in Mexican populations.
