Dr. Murugesan’s research expertise spans salivary and gut microbiomics, metagenomics, host–microbe interactions, microbial bioinformatics, and multi-omics biomarker discovery. His work has contributed to understanding population-specific microbial signatures associated with cardiometabolic health, including pioneering studies investigating salivary microbial signatures of cardiovascular disease risk and hypertension and the integration of salivary microbiome and proteomic profiles in type 2 diabetes. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributes to international scientific collaborations, and serves the scientific community through editorial and peer-review activities, with a broader research goal of translating microbiome discoveries into non-invasive diagnostics and precision-medicine applications.
